About

Dr. Rick Zarnett is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon based in Toronto, with a sports-medicine and arthroscopic practice focused on the knee and shoulder. He was among the first orthopedic surgeons in Toronto to subspecialize in sports medicine, completed his entire training at the University of Toronto's Gallie Surgical Program, and has cared for professional and amateur athletes since 1990.

His practice covers the full spectrum of arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, primary and revision ACL reconstruction, knee replacement (including robotically assisted procedures), and sports-medicine injection therapies. He is a Lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto and a co-Medical Director of Clearpoint Health—a private surgical centre on Toronto's west side where his private hip and knee patients are seen.

Clinical Focus & Specialties

  • Knee Arthroscopy & Sports Medicine: Diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopy of the knee, including meniscal repair, meniscectomy, root repair, and treatment of cartilage and ligament injuries.
  • ACL & Knee Ligament Reconstruction: Primary and revision ACL reconstruction, MCL reconstruction, MPFL reconstruction for patellar instability, and complex knee ligament injuries.
  • Shoulder Arthroscopy: Arthroscopic management of shoulder instability (Bankart and labral repair), rotator cuff repair, and other arthroscopic shoulder procedures.
  • Knee Replacement (incl. Robotic-Assisted): Total knee replacement using modern implants and robotic-assisted techniques for patients with end-stage knee arthritis.
  • Non-Operative Sports Medicine: Image-guided and in-clinic injection therapies including viscosupplementation (hyaluronic acid), platelet-rich plasma (PRP/ACP), and corticosteroid injections.

Dr. Zarnett is the head team physician for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League and an orthopedic consultant to the NHL Players Association and York University Lions Athletics. He performs his private surgical procedures at Clearpoint Surgical Toronto on Dixon Road in Etobicoke, an accredited out-of-hospital premises providing orthopaedic surgical services in a modern facility with experienced surgical and nursing teams focused on patient safety, recovery, and a personalized surgical experience.
