Known for his comprehensive surgical skillset, Dr. Costa has over 14 years of experience with complex knee and shoulder conditions, sports injuries, and joint replacements.

Beyond the operating room, he is a dedicated medical leader—having served as the Chief Medical Officer for the 2021 IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championship and graduating with commendation from the Harvard Medical School Surgical Leadership Program. Dr. Costa maintains active surgical practices in both Alberta and British Columbia, offering private surgical options alongside his public academic commitments

  • Total & Partial Joint Replacement: Primary total hip and knee replacement, partial knee replacement, and robotic-assisted joint replacements.
  • Arthroscopic Knee Surgery: ACL and multi-ligament knee reconstruction, meniscus repair and transplant, cartilage restorative procedures, and patella stabilization surgery.
  • Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery: Rotator cuff repair and related procedures for shoulder instability.
  • Corrective Surgery: Osteotomies of the femur and tibia.
  • General Orthopaedics & Minor Procedures: Carpal tunnel release, trigger finger release, lateral epicondylitis surgery, and hardware removal.

Outside of orthopedics, Dr. Costa (along with his wife and two young boys) can frequently be found enjoying the many recreational opportunities available in BC and Alberta, including hiking, camping, canoeing, fishing, surfing, skiing, snowboarding, and of course plenty of hockey.
