He completed medical school and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Alberta, followed by fellowship training in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine at the Fowler Kennedy Clinic in London, Ontario.
Dr. Nelson has practised in Victoria for more than 20 years. He has extensive experience caring for athletes involved in rugby, soccer, field hockey, rowing, cycling, and triathlon on Vancouver Island, and he regularly teaches Island-based medical students and residents.
In his free time, Dr. Nelson likes to play the piano and practice and perform with his rock band, which is comprised mainly of a number of other local physicians. He also enjoys skiing, road cycling, mountain biking and spending time with his wife and family. He feels blessed to have four wonderful children that give him an enormous sense of pride and admiration regarding their academic and athletic successes.
