Dr. James Ardell is an orthopaedic surgeon in Calgary with fellowship training in orthopaedic trauma and adult hip and knee reconstruction. He completed medical school and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Saskatchewan. He completed advanced training Vancouver General Hospital, gaining extensive experience in the management of complex fractures and polytrauma, then pursued a fellowship in adult orthopaedic reconstruction at the Ottawa Hospital, with a focus on primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty. His training also included significant experience with the direct anterior approach to hip replacement and outpatient (same-day) hip and knee arthroplasty.
Dr. Ardell is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, and an attending orthopaedic surgeon at Rockyview General Hospital. He is actively involved in teaching medical students, orthopaedic residents, and arthroplasty fellows. He has received multiple awards for his contributions to education and research and also serves as an Examiner in Orthopaedics for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
