Dr. Curtis Myden is an orthopedic surgeon certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, with fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopy at the University of British Columbia and in pediatric orthopaedics at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. His practice focuses on arthroscopic and open surgery of the knee and shoulder, and on sport-related injuries.
Before medicine, Dr. Myden swam for the Canadian National Swim Team from 1990 to 2002 and represented Canada at three consecutive Olympic Games — Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000. He won three Olympic bronze medals in the individual medley: two at Atlanta 1996 and one at Sydney 2000. Having trained and competed at that level, he treats the injuries he spent a career working around, and his practice is built around getting athletes of every level back to their sport.
Dr. Myden completed his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, his medical degree and his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Calgary. He began practice in Kelowna, British Columbia in 2013. In 2017 he became the first resident orthopedic surgeon in the Yukon, establishing the territory's resident orthopedic service at Whitehorse General Hospital — care Yukoners had previously relied on visiting specialists to receive.
Dr. Myden sees private patients at Acumen Clinic in Edmonton, with consultations available by video or in person and surgery performed at a private, non-hospital surgical centre. No referral is required.
