About

Dr. Mina W. Morcos is a triple-fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon with advanced training in hip and knee reconstruction and trauma surgery. He accepts patients from across Canada, including patients travelling from Ontario, Alberta and BC for private orthopaedic care. Surgery takes place at Westmount Square Surgical Centre in Montréal, Quebec. Dr. Morcos’ practice focuses on hip and knee replacement, revision arthroplasty, robotic-assisted knee arthroplasty, and rapid-recovery protocols designed to support a more structured surgical recovery pathway.

Clinical Focus & Expertise

  • Total Hip Replacement: Specializing in tissue-sparing, minimally invasive approaches (including the mini-posterior and direct anterior approaches) designed to reduce pain and accelerate recovery.
  • Robotic-Assisted Knee Arthroplasty: Advanced total, partial, and patellofemoral knee replacements utilizing 3D planning and sub-millimeter robotic precision for a customized fit.
  • Complex Revision Surgery: Expert management of failed joint replacements, utilizing highly advanced reconstructive techniques to restore stability and function.
  • Meniscus & Joint Preservation: Arthroscopic surgery for meniscus tears, labral tears, and sports-related joint injuries.
  • Rapid Recovery Protocols: Integrating tailored pain management and early mobilization strategies to allow for safe, expedited hospital discharge—often on the same day as surgery.

Dr. Morcos began his academic training with an undergraduate degree in Physical Therapy from McGill University before earning his medical degree at Université Laval. He completed orthopaedic residency and a Master of Science in Experimental Surgery at McGill University, followed by three fellowships in hip and knee arthroplasty and trauma surgery at Western University and the University of Toronto.

He sees private surgical patients at Westmount Square Surgical Centre in Montréal. The Montréal location is the surgical site for patients travelling from outside Quebec, including those exploring private hip or knee surgery from Ontario, Alberta, and other provinces.

Start with a virtual consult
01

There is no need to attend an in-person appointment in Montréal before surgery is considered.

The consult is used to review your condition, discuss your goals, and determine whether Dr. Morcos's practice is appropriate for you.

Before your consult, prepare:

  • Any imaging reports you already have
  • A summary of your symptoms and how long you've had them
  • Any previous surgeries on the affected joint
Imaging review/ coordination
02

Most patients already have imaging from their home province, and Dr. Morcos can review it remotely before you travel. Any images relevant to the proposed surgery are helpful.

Commonly reviewed:

  • X-rays for hip or knee osteoarthritis
  • MRI for a suspected meniscus injury

How to share it:

  • Email your imaging reports directly
  • Ontario patients: share through PocketHealth
  • Alberta patients: share your Alberta health record
  • New hip or knee X-rays are usually taken in Montréal in the days before surgery.

If you are unsure about imaging, you can still request a consult.

Travel

Surgery takes place at Westmount Square Surgical Centre in Montréal. Most out-of-province patients make only one trip—everything before and after surgery is handled virtually or by phone.

A typical trip:

  • Arrive one night before surgery and stay at a hotel near the clinic
  • Complete your pre-operative X-rays
  • Surgery the following day
  • Recover at the surgical centre, then usually one further night at the hotel before travelling home

A support person is required. Dr. Morcos's office and the surgical centre can assist with accommodation, mobility aids, and travel planning.

Plan for flexibility on your return. How soon you can travel home depends on your recovery and how you're travelling. Patients flying typically need to remain in Montréal for 48–72 hours after surgery depending on the airline's requirements. Patients driving or taking the train may be able to leave sooner once medically cleared. Confirm your plans with the surgical team and your carrier before booking.
Recovery post operation

Dr. Morcos uses rapid-recovery protocols that combine tailored pain management with early mobilization. Most patients are standing and walking within a few hours of surgery, and begin their prescribed exercises—including stairs—the same day.

Before you travel home, you must:

  • Have well-controlled pain
  • Have stable vital signs
  • Be able to mobilize safely

Most patients are clinically eligible for same-day discharge. Out-of-province patients travelling by air are usually advised to stay at the surgical centre for two nights, since airlines generally require 48–72 hours before flying. Patients driving or taking the train may be able to leave sooner.

You'll receive written recovery instructions and a physiotherapy program before you go.

Remote aftercare
05

Follow-up is designed to happen entirely from home—no return travel to Montréal is required.

  • Every patient is assigned a nurse who stays in contact for the first month and is available for questions
  • A remote follow-up with Dr. Morcos is arranged at approximately six weeks
  • Dr. Morcos shares your surgical details with your family physician, and can coordinate with local physiotherapists or orthopaedic providers
  • Patients receive his direct email and phone number

If a concern comes up at home: issues that can be safely managed remotely—such as pain medication, a superficial wound concern, or a physiotherapy adjustment—are handled directly. Dr. Morcos can refer to colleagues in many provinces, and is licensed in Alberta, where he can arrange prescriptions and investigations if needed.

Anything urgent should be assessed at your nearest emergency department.
