About

Insight Medical Imaging is a community diagnostic imaging network based in Edmonton, Alberta, with approximately 20 locations across Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Leduc, Spruce Grove, and Fort McMurray. The network has operated as a radiologist-led partnership since 1942 and offers a complete range of community-based diagnostic imaging across general radiography, women's imaging, cardiac, body, musculoskeletal, and image-guided pain-management services. Scans are interpreted by Insight's partnership of more than 25 radiologists and associates, with reports returned to the referring physician.

Modalities & Services

  • MRI: Magnetic resonance imaging on 1.5 Tesla and 3 Tesla scanners at the Meadowlark Diagnostic Imaging clinic in West Edmonton, used to investigate joint, spine, brain, abdominal, pelvic, or vascular concerns when more detail than X-ray or ultrasound is needed; includes contrast-enhanced MRI when clinically indicated.
  • CT: Computed tomography used to investigate chest, abdominal, musculoskeletal, or neurological concerns, available at selected community locations.
  • Ultrasound: General diagnostic ultrasound including abdominal, pelvic, musculoskeletal, small-parts, and obstetric imaging.
  • Mammography & ABUS (Automated Breast Ultrasound): Routine breast-cancer screening and follow-up of suspicious findings, with automated breast ultrasound available for selected indications (e.g., dense breast tissue).
  • X-ray (walk-in): General diagnostic radiography available on a walk-in basis at most community locations.
  • DEXA (Bone Densitometry): Bone-mineral-density assessment for osteoporosis screening and follow-up.
  • Fluoroscopy / GI Fluoroscopy: Real-time imaging used for selected gastrointestinal and image-guided procedures.
  • Cardiac (Echocardiography and ECG): Cardiac ultrasound and electrocardiogram testing at the Meadowlark Cardiac Lab and selected sites.
  • Nuclear Medicine: Functional imaging at selected sites for indications such as bone, thyroid, and cardiac studies.
  • Image-Guided Pain Management: Targeted injections and procedures performed under imaging guidance for selected spine, joint, and nerve-related pain indications at the Meadowlark Pain Management clinic.
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP): Image-guided PRP injections at selected sites.

Insight Medical Imaging operates as a community-based network across the Edmonton metro and surrounding areas, including specialized sites such as Lendrum Women's Imaging, Meadowlark Diagnostic Imaging, Meadowlark Cardiac Lab, and Meadowlark Pain Management. Patients are typically referred by their family doctor or specialist, and Insight accepts requisitions from any referring clinic. Selected services are also offered on a private-pay basis (most commonly CT and MRI) for patients seeking timely access.

Surgency is a free resource for patients. Surgical providers—who meet our listing standards—pay a flat fee to list on the platform. There's no commissions, referral fees, nor any ranking or recommending one surgeon over another. Surgency is patient-first. Insight Medical Imaging sees patients regardless of home province. Patients in Alberta can book community imaging services with a physician referral, with publicly funded community imaging covered by Alberta Health Care for eligible services. Insight also offers private-pay CT and MRI for patients seeking timely access outside of publicly funded scheduling, and out-of-province patients travelling to Edmonton can book directly.

What are common reasons for patients to see Insight Medical Imaging?

Patients commonly choose Insight Medical Imaging because they may need an MRI, CT, ultrasound, mammogram, ABUS, DEXA, fluoroscopy, echocardiogram, nuclear medicine study, or image-guided pain procedure to investigate a joint, spine, brain, abdominal, pelvic, breast, cardiac, or bone-density concern, or for routine screening. Insight has operated as a radiologist-led community imaging partnership in the Edmonton area since 1942, with approximately 20 community locations and 1.5 Tesla and 3 Tesla MRI scanners co-located at its Meadowlark Diagnostic Imaging clinic in West Edmonton.
