About

Canada Diagnostic Centres (CDC) is a community-based diagnostic imaging network in Alberta, providing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, mammography, bone mineral densitometry, fluoroscopy / GI studies, nuclear medicine, X-ray, image-guided pain management, paediatric imaging, and maternal-fetal medicine ultrasound. CDC opened its first clinic in Calgary in 1993—originally operating as Western Canada MRI Centres, the first non-hospital private MRI provider in Western Canada—and has since grown to 20 community-based locations across Alberta.

Imaging Services

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): Diagnostic MRI of the brain, spine, joints, abdomen, pelvis, and vasculature, including 3 Tesla MRI at select sites and MRI arthrography (joint contrast injection followed by MRI) for the shoulder, hip, wrist, or knee.
  • Computed Tomography (CT): Low-dose CT of the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis, and musculoskeletal structures, used for diagnostic and selected screening indications.
  • Ultrasound: General, vascular, and musculoskeletal ultrasound, including 2D, 3D, and 4D obstetric ultrasound, with a dedicated maternal-fetal medicine clinic.
  • Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD): Bone-density assessment for osteoporosis screening and follow-up.
  • Image-Guided Pain Management: Therapeutic and diagnostic injections including musculoskeletal, facet, epidural, nerve-root block, and cervical injections, as well as radiofrequency neurotomy.
  • Nuclear Medicine, Fluoroscopy / GI Studies, X-Ray, Paediatric (KIDS) Imaging, Whole Body Composition: Additional modalities offered at selected locations.

(Modality availability varies by location; not every clinic offers every service.)

CDC's clinical work is performed and interpreted by radiologists licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). At the network level, CDC self-reports referrals from approximately 5,700 practitioners and approximately 496,000 patient visits per year, with over 1,000,000 imaging tests performed annually across the network and a workforce of 700+ team members.
