About

Open Skies MRI Diagnostics is a private diagnostic imaging clinic in Regina, Saskatchewan, offering magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for patients across Saskatchewan and the Prairies. Founded in 2012, Open Skies was Saskatchewan's first licensed private MRI facility and is locally owned by radiologists. Scans are interpreted by board-certified radiologists, with many focused on specific body regions, and reports are returned to the referring physician.

Modalities & Services

  • MRI (musculoskeletal): Investigate a joint, ligament, tendon, or cartilage injury that isn't clear on X-ray — most commonly knee, shoulder, hip, ankle, wrist, and elbow.
  • MRI (brain, spine, and nerves): Investigate persistent headaches, back or neck pain, numbness, weakness, or other neurological concerns.
  • MRI (abdomen and pelvis): Investigate abdominal or pelvic pain, suspected masses, or follow-up imaging requested by a specialist.
  • Breast MRI: Used in selected indications such as evaluation of high-risk patients, dense breast tissue, or further work-up of findings identified on mammography or ultrasound.
  • Contrast-enhanced MRI: MRI performed with an intravenous contrast agent when clinically indicated by the referring physician (e.g., suspected infection, tumour characterization, post-surgical assessment).

Open Skies MRI operates from a single location on Parliament Avenue in southeast Regina, with weekday daytime hours. The clinic accepts patients on a self-pay basis with a physician referral, in line with Saskatchewan's Patient Choice Medical Imaging Act framework. Patients across Saskatchewan, as well as out-of-province patients travelling to Regina, can book directly.

Accreditations & credentials

  • 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner with a wide 70 cm bore — the wide-bore design is intended to reduce the sense of enclosure that some patients find difficult in standard-bore scanners, and supports patients across a broader range of body sizes.
  • Contrast-enhanced MRI capability using an intravenous contrast agent for indications that require it, when ordered by the referring physician.
  • Adaptive scan technology that adjusts imaging parameters to each patient's anatomy to support consistent image quality.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Surgency cost?

Surgency is a free resource for patients. Surgical providers—who meet our listing standards—pay a flat fee to list on the platform. There's no commissions, referral fees, nor any ranking or recommending one surgeon over another. Surgency is patient-first. Our goal is to make the process of finding a private surgeon as simple as possible. You choose who to contact. Learn more in our Advertising Policy.

Open Skies MRI is within my home province, can they provide me imaging services?

Open Skies MRI sees patients regardless of home province. Patients in Saskatchewan can book privately with a physician referral, and out-of-province patients travelling to Regina can also book directly. Open Skies MRI is a private-pay imaging centre, and provincial public insurance does not generally cover non-hospital MRI scans. Under Saskatchewan's Patient Choice Medical Imaging Act, every private MRI performed in the province is matched with a second scan of similar complexity, performed at no charge to a patient on the public wait list—a structural feature of how private MRI works in Saskatchewan.

What are common reasons for patients to see Open Skies MRI?

Patients commonly choose Open Skies MRI because they may need an MRI to investigate a joint, ligament, or cartilage injury, persistent back, neck, or nerve pain, abdominal or pelvic concerns, or a suspected condition that needs more detail than X-ray or ultrasound can provide, including breast MRI in selected indications. Open Skies MRI has operated in Regina since 2012 as Saskatchewan's first licensed private MRI facility and is locally owned by radiologists, with scans interpreted by board-certified radiologists.
